If your customer typically pays each time using a credit or debit card, you can try using these key talking points to persuade them to switch to Direct Debit.
Key talking points
-
It’s a preferred payment option - Direct Debit through GoCardless is now our preferred way to take payments.
-
It’s a set and forget method - You set up payment once, and after that, it’s taken automatically on the invoice due date. No need to set up reminders.
-
You will never get chased for payment - Payments are taken automatically, so you won’t get chased for payments and there’s no risk of late payment fees (if your business has them).
-
You’re still in control and protected - You receive advance payment notifications and you’re protected under the Direct Debit Guarantee scheme.
-
It’s better for budgeting - Payments are predictable, which can make it easier to budget for our services.
(Optional)
Financial reward - Moving to Direct Debit saves us money on admin time and fees, so we’re passing this benefit to you.
Once they’re ready to sign up
Once you’re customer is ready to set up a Direct Debit mandate we would suggest explaining to them the next steps:
-
After this call, you’ll receive a payment authorisation email from GoCardless which requests that you complete a Direct Debit mandate. This gives us permission to collect the agreed payments from your bank account at the agreed time.
You can find more information on this and an example email to send to your customer in the ‘’How to get customers to pay by Direct Debit’’ guide.
