To set up GoCardless for Zapier, you will need:
- Access to your verified GoCardless account
- Zapier account (free or paid)
Setting up
Follow the steps below to create your own Zap from scratch. We also provide Zap templates
to get you started - choose your template and follow Zapier directions.
Triggers
1) Start setting up a Zap from the Zapier dashboard
The integration is in public Beta, which means you can now create your own Zaps
from the dashboard right away!
Click on Create Zap:
2) Set up GoCardless trigger
Search for GoCardless app under Choose app & event and open the list of
events as in the image below. Skip to the next section if you’d rather use GC actions.
Once you select your trigger, Zapier will look for an instance of it in your GoCardless
account (for example, if you select the Payment Paid out trigger, Zapier will attempt
to find an existing successful payment in your GoCardless account). This step is
necessary so that Zapier can pull trigger data into the UI editor and make sure your
Zap is set up correctly.
3) Sign in to your GoCardless account
Next, Zapier will prompt you to sign in to your GoCardless account:
Choose between sandbox and live environments. Use sandbox if you’d like to test
out the integration without affecting any real customers. You can always set up
another Zap in the live environment once you’re confident with Zaps running in
sandbox. You can find more information on differences between both in this article.
No matter what environment you choose, we will redirect you to the sign-in
dashboard page. Once you signed in, you will see the following screen:
If all is successful, you will be redirected back to the Zap page.
Remember, you can set up as many independent Zaps as you want as long as your
GoCardless user permissions allow you to create customer payments. The
connection is necessary to allow Zapier to make requests to us on your behalf and
you can always revoke it from the Zapier and GoCardless dashboards.
Tip: View and manage all successful connections to GoCardless in My Apps tab.
Find more details in Zapier docs.
4) Test
Click on Test Trigger and that’s the first trigger done! From then on, you are
able to use trigger data in the rest of your Zap. For example, you can send
failed payments to Gmail or database of your choice.
Actions
If you’d rather set up actions, the guide is very similar to the triggers.
1) Click on Create Zap and choose the action:
2) Sign in to your GoCardless account (or choose the existing connection)
If you are already successfully connected to us in Zapier, you will be able to simply
select one. Otherwise, Zapier will prompt you to sign in.
3) Set up GoCardless action
Click on each input field and you’ll be able to pass in data from the previous trigger
or action. For example, the following screenshot takes payment data from Google
Sheets:
Tip: Use Customer ID if you want to create an action against an existing customer.
Leaving this field blank will automatically generate a new customer and you will get
their ID in response.
4) Test
Click Test Action and Zapier will test the set up by performing the action.
If everything was set up correctly, the only thing left to do now is to hit Publish Zap
and watch the magic running real-time!
Otherwise, Zapier will show an error and you can change the Zap to make it work
correctly.
The integration is in the Beta stage and we will be adding more features as we
collect your feedback. Please send us your thoughts or open a support ticket.
