Benefits of bank debit for customers

The benefits of switching to Direct Debit differ depending on how a customer currently pays you.

Our articles on how to move your customer from credit or debit card and how to move your customer from standing order will provide you with more information on how to move each particular customer to Direct Debit.

The benefits of Direct Debit for customers

  • No need for reminders
The customer won’t need to set up reminders to pay you or manually pay you each time the payment is due. Payments paid via Direct Debit are taken automatically on the agreed date.

  • They are more informed
The customer will receive automated notifications related to their Direct Debit payments, such as advance payment notifications or notifications related to any changes made to their Direct Debit.

  • They are in control and protected
The customer is protected under the Direct Debit Guarantee scheme and can request a refund for any payments taken in error.

  • They won’t be chased for payments
Payments are taken automatically so they won’t get chased for payments when they are due.

  • Less hassle to make changes
If a payment amount changes it may mean manually intervention from the customer when paying by other payment methods, which is more hassle. The Direct Debit amount can be changed easily without having to set up a new Direct Debit and the customer will be informed of the changes that have been made.

  • They won’t ever need to update payment details
Unless the customer changes bank accounts, they won’t need to worry about updating their payment details (unlike, if their debit card expires, or is lost or stolen).

  • Paying through Direct Debit gives them certainty
Your customer will know exactly how much they’re paying and when, which can help with budgeting.
