In this article, we will show you what it’s like to authorize a Direct Debit request with GoCardless step by step.
Step 1 - Receiving the setup link.
This link can reach you in two different ways. The company you are paying may include the link in a personalised email which may include other information about your agreement.
Alternatively, the company can trigger an automated email from GoCardless, an example on
what this email might look like can be seen below.
The subject may be something like: “DEMO Co needs your approval to set up a Direct Debit mandate”
The email will be received from noreply@gocardless.com
The company’s logo will be at the top of the email.
Here we are showing the standard email text but this can be tailored by the company.
Click the “Setup Direct Debit” link to start the process.
Depending on how you received the link the Direct Debit form can either be totally blank or some fields may be pre-filled. When fields are pre-filled always make sure the information relates to yourself before completing the form. If not please contact the company and request a new link.
If the pre-filled information does relate to you but you would like to change it slightly, feel free to go ahead. For example, changing an email address or a last name.
Step 2 Select your country - this should be the country where you live and your bank account is held.
Step 3 Enter your name - by default the company name box will be displayed. If signing on behalf of yourself click on “Click here to use your name”.
A First name and Last name can now be entered.
Step 4 Next enter your bank account details.
Step 5 Email address - this should be the email that you would like to receive notifications from GoCardless.
Step 6 More than one person is required to authorise Direct Debit requests.
If this is the case for your bank account tick the box and you will see this message:
Once you are happy with all the information entered click “Set up Direct Debit Request”, next you’ll see a page confirming that the Direct Debit has been set up.
Step 7 - Review the details entered - and click Confirm if you are happy to Change to go back and make any amendments.
Step 8 - The Direct Debit setup will be confirmed on the next screen.
Step 9 Shortly completing the form you will receive an email confirmation from GoCardless. This email will come from help@gocardless.com.
What happens next?
The Direct Debit is now fully set and the company can collect funds from your bank account.
You will receive a notification if each payment 2 working days before collection.
