There are a number of different methods you can use to search for customer and/or payment information within your dashboard, depending on the information you are looking for.
Before looking at how to search for different types of information in the dashboard, it's first useful to learn a few basic search functions that can help with this.
Search Functions
Wildcard
The wildcard function enables you to search for part of a query by adding an asterisk at the end of the search parameter you're using.
Search example | What you would search | How it works |
---|---|---|
You're looking for a customer by their first name but can't remember if they're listed as 'James' or 'Jamie'. | Jam* |
The * symbol stands for one or more of any character. Note: You can use the asterisk at the end of a query but not the beginning (e.g. searching for 'James' by using *es would not return a result). |
Negation
The negation function enables you to specify exclusions from a search result.
Search example | What you would search | How it works |
---|---|---|
You have three plans set up named Gold, Gold plan, and Gold service. You only want to see customers on the Gold plan but searching for "Gold" will return customers assigned to either. | Gold -plan -service | The -operator removes any results that include the query following it. In this example, adding the two exclusions will remove any results associated to Gold plan and Gold service. |
Or
Using this function enables you to search for two or more separate queries at the same time, essentially looking for this OR that.
Search example | What you would search | How it works |
---|---|---|
You're searching for a customer but can't remember if they signed up using their personal name, James Smith, or their company name, Example Ltd. | James Smith | Example Ltd | The | acts as an or function to search for the query either side of the "|" character separately and return the query that correctly matches a result. |
And
Using this function, you can search for multiple queries at the same time and only get results that correctly match all the queries combined. (Please note this is not necessary when searching for customers using their full name).
Search example | What you would search | How it works |
---|---|---|
You want to find all your customers who are assigned to two specific plans - Gold and Silver. | Gold + Silver | The + functions as an and query, returning only the results that match both queries. |
Specific Phrase
You can also search for a specific phrase by searching for it within quotation marks.
Search example | What you would search | How it works |
---|---|---|
You want to find all one-off payments you have created that include the phrase Gold membership package. | "Gold membership package" | Any query incorporated within quotation marks is searched for as a complete match to the full query string e.g. this example would return any results for "Gold membership package" but would not return any results that include the same words but in a different order, such as Gold package membership. |

This next section outlines the best search parameters and function(s) to use when performing common searches in the dashboard.
