This will depend on the nature of your business and the legal entity you operate as. When you sign up for a GoCardless account you will receive an email informing you of what we initially require.
In some instances, we may request additional documentation to verify your identity. We will let you know if this is the case.
If we request documentation, it will need to meet the criteria below.
Verifying your identity:
We require government-issued photo ID. Examples include scans/copies of your
- Driving licence
- National identity card (in countries where this issued)
The scan/copy should be clear, in date and show the full biodata page (take care to avoid glare from camera flashes or cutting off part of the document). For most national identity cards, we will require a scan/copy of both sides of the card to verify its validity.
Verifying your address:
You will need to upload a document issued within the past 6 months confirming your name and home address. This should be issued by a credit agency (e.g. your bank or a utilities provider) or government authority. Examples include
- Bank statement
- Council tax invoice or reminder
- Utility bill
- Phone bill
- Vehicle registration or tax
Please note that we cannot use the same document to verify both your identity and your address. So if you upload a copy of your driving licence or national identity card as ID, we will not be able to use the same document as proof of address.
Verifying your bank account:
In most instances we can verify your payout bank account automatically when you make the verification payment (you will be prompted to do this when you add a bank account). However, in some situations we may also request a bank statement. We will let you know if this is the case. If we do request this, it will need to show the below:
- Full account holder name
- Account number
- Sort code
- Date of issue within the past 6 months
Any documentation we request to verify your identity can be uploaded directly to your dashboard.
