Remember Me

The Remember Me feature is available to eligible customers.

Eligible customers will be given the option to turn on Remember Me when setting up a payment through GoCardless. If they enable it, they can quickly set up future payments with their email address without having to type out all their details, by verifying via email or SMS.

Safe and secure - Customer details are encrypted. We use personal data as described in our Privacy Notice.

Quick & Easy - No need for the customer to re-enter details every time they pay.

Extra Protection - We’ll send a verification code to their email or mobile phone when they set up a new mandate.

If your customer has enabled the feature but they changed their mind and would like to disable it, they can do this anytime by clicking the link provided in the email confirmation they would have received upon opting into the feature. Alternatively, you can get in touch with us by submitting a request here.

Why are remembered details not available when setting up mandates with some merchants?

Payers may choose to have their details remembered, but if they have previously requested restrictions on their bank details, then we do not facilitate the feature. The customer may submit a request here if they would like to remove this restriction.

The feature is also available depending on the merchant the payer is setting up a payment with. Certain settings and features of a merchant's account may prevent the feature from being available to their customers.

FAQs

What do we do with the data?

When enabling Remember Me, we store the customer’s email address and phone number (optional) to identify returning customers. If the customer’s details match our records and they successfully verify themselves, we will retrieve and display their last used bank account details.

How can a payer disable Remember Me?

If a payer has enabled the feature but would like to opt out, they can do this anytime by clicking the opt-out link provided in the email confirmation they received upon opting into the feature or via the link here.

How can a merchant opt out from Remember Me?

Merchants that use our hosted payment pages will not be able to disable the feature for their payers. If you believe that you have an exceptional circumstance that would require it to be disabled, submit a request through Customer Support here.

Where are payers’ bank details stored and/or how are they encrypted?

When someone makes a payment via GoCardless, their bank information is encrypted and stored securely. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit using strong encryption protocols. GoCardless employs multiple layers of security to protect sensitive data. Find out more here.

Are payer banking details shared with the merchants?

The merchant will be able to see the details provided on the mandate form, apart from the payer’s bank details. For security purposes, bank details are encrypted in our system, GoCardless and merchants can only see the last 2 digits of the bank account.

Will payers be notified when their stored details are used?

They will receive an email or SMS to verify each time the stored details are going to be used, and then they will also receive an email if a direct debit is set up.

What happens if a payer’s bank details change?

They can input them again in the GoCardless payment flow and select the Remember Me checkbox and their details will be updated automatically.

Can payers use this feature for multiple bank accounts?

No, currently the feature only leverages the last bank account details you opted in to remember.

Does this feature work for all types of payments?

This feature works for Direct Debit Bacs payments.

What happens to my data when I disable Remember Me?

If you disable Remember Me, we will no longer use your email address to automatically suggest your previously used bank account details.
