A default transaction limit is applied to any payments collected through GoCardless.
As the Direct Debit system is a pull-based payment method, it is best suited for smaller recurring payments, and we generally recommend that high value payments are collected using a push-based payment method, such as a bank transfer.

Why is there a transaction limit?
Larger value payments carry with them an increased risk due to the ability for customers to reverse payments directly with their bank under the Direct Debit guarantee.
These reversals, sometimes known as ‘chargebacks’ or ‘claims’, can typically be requested when a payment was not authorised, collected in error or no notice was provided in advance of the payment being collected.
The transaction limit is in place to protect both merchants and GoCardless from potential large losses.
Reversals
Please note: The timeframe in which a customer can claim for a reversal of funds with their bank will vary between Direct Debit schemes. You can find more information on the chargeback process for each scheme with the Schemes section here.
