Transaction fees
Our Standard transaction fees for each Direct Debit scheme we offer are as follows:
SCHEME | CURRENCY | PERCENTAGE OF PAYMENT AMOUNT | MINIMUM FEE | MAXIMUM FEE (CAP) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Autogiro | SEK | 1% | 2kr | 20kr |
Bacs | GBP | 1% | £0.20 | £2 |
BECS | AUD | 1% | A$0.35 | A$3.50 |
BECS NZ | NZD | 1% | NZD$0.40 | NZD$4.40 |
Betalingsservice | DKK | 1% | kr7 | kr22 |
PAD | CAD | 1% | CAD$0.40 | CAD$4.00 |
SEPA | EUR | 1% | €0.20 | €2 |
Transaction fees are deducted at source from each individual payment successfully collected on your behalf. For example, a charge of £100 will incur a £1 transaction fee. We'll deduct this upon collecting the payment and payout £99 to you two working days later.
You can find more information on Plus package fees here and Pro package fees here.
App fees
App fees are sometimes charged by partner integrations for use of their platform. They are in addition to our transaction fees and are most commonly a percentage of the payment amount being charged.
If you are being charged app fees, these will show as a separate transaction line against collected payments and payouts in your dashboard.
Transaction limits
There is a default transaction limit for any payment collected through GoCardless. Being a pull-based payment method, Direct Debit is best suited to smaller recurring payments, and so for large value payments we generally recommend using a push-based payment method such as a direct bank transfer.
The default transaction limits for each currency are as follows:
SCHEME | CURRENCY | TRANSACTION MINIMUM | TRANSACTION LIMIT |
---|---|---|---|
Autogiro | SEK | 10 | 50,000 |
Bacs | GBP | 1 | 5,000 |
BECS | AUD | 2 | 10,000 |
BECS NZ | NZD | 2 | 10,000 |
Betalingsservice | DKK | 10 | 50,000 |
PAD | CAD | 2 | 5,000 |
SEPA | EUR | 1 | 5,000 |
In certain circumstances we may be able to increase the transaction limit on an account, however we review this on a case by case basis and would expect to see a positive payment history on your account with at least 75 successful payments to consider a raise.
If you would like to request a limit raise, please raise a ticket.
Why is there a transaction limit?
Direct Debit is a pull based payment method, best suited for collecting lower value transactions. Larger value payments carry with them an increased risk due to the ability for customers to reverse payments directly with their bank. These reversals are commonly known as 'chargebacks' or 'claims' and can typically be requested when a payment was not authorised, collected in error, or no notice was provided in advance of the payment being collected or subscription start date.
Charging VAT on payments
Payments created in GoCardless are the full amount being charged to the customer. We do not add VAT on top of this. As such, if you do need to charge your customers VAT, you will need to incorporate this into the amount you create your payments for.
Invoices for transaction fees
As payment processing is VAT exempt, we currently don't supply invoices. You can read more about this on the Government website here. Since we deduct fees at source, no funds are owed to invoice for.
You can get a breakdown of the fees you've paid by exporting your payout breakdown as a csv file from within your dashboard.
